So ever since my downswing, I’ve been playing a LOT of poker! My logic? Well when you get knocked down, get back up and keep fighting! hahaha. Well I definitely, see it as a learning experience and it only makes me try harder! I’ve definitely been putting in some heavy sessions and I’m quite satisfied with my play as of late.
I took my foot off the gas pedal on the online MTTs for a short bit to give my cash games a little bit of extra attention but I imagine I’ll be back on it soon to prepare for my live events coming up! First stop in early January is the PCA in the Bahamas! This is truly one of the best live events to go to and one of my most enjoyable each time I come. Then I’ll be flying back home for a day or two break…only to fly to Australia! Yup I’m going to the Aussie Millions with the pokernews strategy fellas. I’ve never been to Australia before but I hear great things on how beautiful it is over there. I could google some images but I rather experience and see it w/ my own eyes than be spoiled! Although the flight won’t be so fun given how long it takes to get there, I’m excited! Hopefully, I can go on a safari! That will pretty much take care of the majority of my January as I’ll be flying back in the beginning of February. Until then…gotta look forward to Christmas!

Hey man,
I farted in a jar and sealed the lid but I think the jar is broken because my room now smells of fart.
My question is what is your favourite non alcoholic beverage?

Haha yeah it is a bit of a lot of questions! I am a bit of a self learner when I started out but I think some of that attributes to me not being aware of the resources out there to learn. You should listen to some of the interviews that I’ve done that I post around here on my blog. It definitely should answer a lot of the questions about how I got started and my approach etc. =)
I don’t know much about organizations, etc that are looking into aiding the effort as it’s not something I’m knowledgeable about so sorry about that. Regardless, thanks for the comments!
Hey man I’ve been trying to pretty much watch any kind of video you’ve done and it’s crazy how on target your reads are. I looked at your hometown and we are actually from the same general area. I’m from Citrus Heights, but I used to play ball close to CRC over off of Florin. Pretty much just started looking into 6 max, and was curious how you attacked the game from the start. Did you just play and start to develop your game or did you do a lot of hand history analysis, etc. on top as well? Was any book paramount to your development? Is pokertracker a necessity? Also, I learned how to play poker in general while deployed to Iraq and was wondering if you or any other pros you know of were working with Pokerstars or some other org to idk aid in the effort over there? Wow, that’s a ton of questions I guess I just laid on you. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the game.

Queensland is the other state of Australia on the east coast. Melbourne is in Victoria – bottom state on the east, Sydney is in New South Wales the next state up the coast and then Queensland is the next state up the coast, Brisbane is it’s capital city. It is an hour flight between Melb and Sydney and then another hour to Brisbane. Don’t get fooled like a lot of tourist Australia is a big place.

Thanks for the words! I’m really hoping for some live results soon too hahahah
Can you post an analysis of your downswing, EV, reasons, etc.?
ooops, no edit allowed!
I mean’t to put “lol” on the end of not congratulating you as still, it’s a good achievement recouping your losses especially considering you never really had a down swing before.
Please for the love of god take down a live tournament Randy, preferably the aussie millions. Or final table at least! I do truly believe one day you will and the day it happens, I think your life is going to change drastically even more so than it already has.
I’ve been routing for you all the time especially since the down swing. I never really doubted that you would turn it back around so I can’t really congratulate you on that as it was inevitable.
Best of luck in Australia, beautiful country.

Modesto and Elk Grove aren’t the same! hahaha…I like the bay area =]
Hello, I saw that you live in Elk Grove. I live in Milpitas and I used to live in Modesto. Not hating on Elk Grove but the valley in general sucks. Too much crime and not enough to do. Move to the bay area please lol. Move your family out, I guarantee they will enjoy it over here. It’s always 10 degrees warmer in the winter and 10 degrees colder in the summer. Plus we need some poker representation here in the bay. Phil helmuth lives here but no one knows+ Antonio Esfandiari grew up here but no one ever represents.

I’ve never heard of Queensland. All I know is that I’ll be in Melbourne the majority of the time and possibly Sydney for a little bit. I like kangaroos! Maybe I can ride in the pouch!
Randy, what was your reasoning behind the shove with Jc5c as discussed on 2+2?
You should try kangaroo in Australia. How far is the tournament from Queensland? That state suppose to have the best beaches. Since I’m not an Australian native, take my tip with a grain of salt. I just read that randomly on kotaku.com one day.
And by this year I mean 2011.
I will be at PCA this year. I look forward to meeting you.

Heh thanks for the words! I play using bootcamp which boots it in Windows so its pretty similar. I’ve gotten use to it pretty well. thanks for the words!
Hey nanonoko, have you been playing most of your hands on the Mac recently? MacOS is OK, but the thing is: small changes can have a big effect when you have to make thousands of inputs/decisions every day. It’s like getting a different controller/arcade stick for a fighting game. It really should have no effect on your game, but it really has everything to do with how well you can fight with furious inputs. Even if you can still hit the hadouken, the extra effort required is a drag after it adds up.
Good to know you are happy with your game, but I think you should switch back to your old OS, keyboard, and mouse and see how it effects your game too.
please stay away from my 5/10 tables (at crown) in january
Randy,
Your going to love Australia especially if you get out and see the country and the sights. I think you might have Australia and Africa mixed up, we don’t have safaris here. If I see you at Crown I will say hello.
Cheers,
Steve
Hey Randy,
You are one of my idols when it comes to online grinding.. I’ve been playing poker since I was about 16 (22 now). I don’t have many kinks in my game, but I know they are there. If you could give me just a couple pointers that helped you it would be amazing.. MAYBE, just maybe, you could even bankroll me.. Best wishes
